Pre-College Saturday Studio Class: The Essentials of Drawing

with Athena Scott


This class is for high-school students of all abilities and experience levels, from novices to veterans.

Students will learn the fundamental principles of drawing and strengthen their observational skills. They will be introduced to a variety of materials and techniques while drawing from still-life, live-figure models and historic casts. Students will deepen their understanding of proportions, perspective, light & shadow, line, tone, and composition. This class will be an opportunity to strengthen essential skills and create outstanding portfolio pieces.

Students will have opportunity to paint nude models. $35 model fee included in course fee.

Please bring supplies:

  • 18 by 24 standard drawing pad
  • 18 by 24 newsprint pad (50 sheets)
  • Pencils #2H and 4B and 6B
  • Sketch book (9 by 11 inches or approximate size)
  • Vine charcoal
  • Compressed Charcoal
  • Chamois
  • Plastic film eraser (STAEDTLER mars plastic eraser is ideal)
  • Kneaded eraser

This course provides 1.0 undergraduate credit. See Pre College Credit Policy

No class on Saturday Nobember 25th.
