Virtual Young Artist Academy: The Art of Painting

Calendar Next available session starts Oct 23, 2021 at 1 pm, runs for 6 weeks

In this five-week virtual course students will participate in live-zoom sessions exploring PAFA’s museum virtual collection and discovering the “secrets” of some of America’s greatest artists. Students will develop confidence in using a variety of artmaking techniques, creating naturalistic and illusionistic artworks, capturing a likeness, and much more, all while having fun with acrylic and watercolor paints. 

The Art Toolbox - a complementary set of Bristol Paper, Acrylics, and Brushes will be mailed to student’s home address.   

Students should have the following materials available at home: 

  • Pencil/Eraser 
  • Water Colors  
  • Optional Coloring Materials (colored pencils, markers, etc.) 
  • Scrap Paper or any sketchbook already owned 
  • Inking Pen (micron, brush pen, or anything similar) 


Virtual Young Artist Academy: The Art of Drawing

Calendar Next available session starts Nov 3, 2021 at 4 pm, runs for 5 weeks

This five-week long weekday virtual class offers an opportunity for children 10-14 to develop and hone their drawing skills within convenient afterschool hours at the comfort of their home. The course focuses on life drawing and emphasizes mastery of light and shadow, contour, texture, and other techniques. Learning from the great draftsmen, represented in PAFA’s collection, the young artists will develop confidence in creating drawings that capture a likeness, create naturalistic effects, and even play illusionistic tricks. 

Each student will receive an Art Toolbox, by mail with specialized drawing supplies.

The Art Toolbox - a drawing set, sketchbook, vine charcoal, and special illustration markers.  

You will also need: 

  • Extra Pencil/Eraser 
  • Water Color paint 
  • Other coloring materials (colored pencils, markers, etc.)
