Pre-College Saturday Studio Class: Oil Painting
with Roger Chavez
No class March 30th
This class is for high-school students of all abilities and experience levels, from novices to veterans.
Explore the vibrant possibilities of oil painting and deepen your understanding of the two-dimensional visual language through time honored methods taught at PAFA.
In this class you will learn about a variety of materials and techniques including painting supports, preparation of the historical and contemporary oil mediums, use of brushes and paint chemistry.
Learning Objectives:
Students will understand color mixing of prismatic hues and earth tone colors
Students will be able to apply the systems of additive and subtractive color to their work
Students will be able to apply a variety of taught oil painting techniques to subjects such as still-life, the cityscape, and nudes.
Please bring all supplies on list by first day of class - note that supplies are not included in this course.
Young Artist Academy - Illustration and Comics
with Mike Sienkiewicz
Hone your art making skills, focusing on a variety of illustration techniques. The class will embrace out-of-the-box thinking and experimentation with traditional and innovative media, while improving your drawing techniques and discovering the ins and outs of character development, comics creation, poster design, cartooning, and a host of other options within the world of illustration.

Join us in celebration of another year of art making at PAFA, with music, food, performances, art-making station, and a raffle for a FREE Summer Art Camp.
Camp I-1. Artist Garden. Ages 5-6
Get inspired by the “Artists as Cultivators” exhibition and create your own artistic garden where anything can grow; you only have to imagine it!
Camp II-1: Sculptural Creations. Ages 7-8
Camp III-1: Intro To Drawing. Ages 9-11
Turn your doodles into artworks! Learn to draw human figures, animals and nature, creating scenes from both observation and imagination.
Camp IV-1: Art Foundations. Ages 12-14
Develop your foundational skills in traditional art-making methods and explore some experimental techniques, while strengthening and diversifying your skills and use of materials.
Pre-College: Drawing I
with Roger Chavez
Strengthen your drawing ability and build your college portfolio. Learn to draw what you see with confidence! Work from still life arrangements, PAFA’s renowned collection, interior spaces, and the human figure, to master foundational elements: shape, contour line, composition, light and shadow, texture, and perspective. Students practice sight-drawing and measuring techniques and learn ways of defining form and space. This course teaches important skills for all artmaking, including for painting and other disciplines. Live model fee is included in the tuition.
Students are responsible for providing all their own materials.
A materials list will be emailed to registered students two weeks before class and made available on PAFA's website.
